Sow for yourselves righteousness; reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground, for it is time to seek the LORD, till He comes and rains righteousness on you.
Sing to the Lord a New Song
He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD.
Psalm 40:3 NIV
Our Lord desires us to have fresh new things to sing about and praise Him for. Praise abounds from a heart that is experiencing His new mercies every day, like an overflowing cup, full to the brim and spilling over with joy.
There are times when I am in His Word and a certain passage blesses me so much that I have a new song of praise in my heart. My heart also begins to sing at a retreat or conference when a speaker shares about a treasured moment with the Lord. Often during worship I am so filled with adoration for the Lord that each word I sing is a new reflection on who He is and how worthy He is to be praised.
Remember Snow White and the seven dwarfs singing, “Whistle While You Work”? It’s hard to be like Grumpy when you’re singing. Singing changes our attitudes. It makes the ordinary extraordinary.
I’m convinced that if we are making music in our hearts to the Lord, melody will flow out to others who will put their trust in Him. Take time with God often and I promise that you’ll have plenty to sing about!
